“Humans have an even longer history of violence than do governments”
I’m not suggesting we all need to experience torture or deprivation to know what it’s like to be human. Far from it. But we do need to realize what’s lurking just under the patina of polite society.
Defenders of unscientific ideas use gullibility: “you have to keep an open mind,” and Radical Skepticism: “you can never have absolute certainty.”
What seems to offend them most is the utter lack of evidence for any of what religious people believe, and atheists’ lack of restraint in pointing that out. That’s it.
The so-called spiritual seekers don’t take long to expose their biases and holier-than-thou attitudes. Mind you, these people claim to have transcended the ego, and to only be interested in “peace, love and light.”
The Waxman-Markey cap and trade bill represents a last chance to stave off major climate impacts and put the U.S. on course for a sustainable future.
There are many circumstances that require doctors and women to choose a course of action that may cause revulsion. We often forget that pregnancy and childbirth used to be the leading cause of death for women.
Words have profound power. The premise of the Science of the Spoken Word, however, is that words have supernatural power. And that’s what makes it a pseudo-science.
Brains and machines will be able to communicate quickly and deeply. To some people, this sounds like heaven. To others, it sounds like the end of the human race and a techno-hell.
They know that the world will eventually stop burning carbon. This inevitable shift will be of a magnitude not seen since the Industrial Revolution. It will affect every area of human life and will ultimately save tens of trillions of dollars.
